The Senior Division, First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies course will help to further enrich student learning outcomes by delivering varying perspectives on issues, practices and events from the past, present and emergent future with respect to First Nations, Metis and Inuit cultures. The voices and wisdom of Knowledge Keepers, community members and educators are reflected in this course. First Nations, Métis and Inuit knowledge, ways of knowing, culture, language and traditions are honoured and celebrated throughout the course. This course will facilitate individual learning journeys into the richness and diversity of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples and Perspectives.

This Additional Basic Qualification course is intended to explore and enhance professional practice, program planning and leadership within the Senior Division. The course will extend professional knowledge, skills and pedagogies within this specific area of study and explore the theoretical foundations associated with supporting the adolescent learner.

Prerequisites

  • An undergraduate degree acceptable to the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT
  • An Intermediate Basic Qualification in any subject area

Online: October 4, 2022 - December 9, 2022.

This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. Expect to be online at least every second day for Fall, Winter and Spring courses; and every weekday during a Summer course to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
