The purpose of the Physical and Health Education (H&PE) Senior Additional Basic Qualification (ABQ) Course is to develop candidates’ skills and knowledge for design, delivery, and assessment of H&PE programs. This course focuses on the theory and practice underpinning H&PE through exploration of the underlying philosophy and its application for ensuring a healthy, active living education for older adolescent students.

Prerequisites:

  • An undergraduate degree acceptable to the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT
  • Satisfy the OCT language proficiency
  • Two full university degree credit courses in Physical and Health Education OR Intermediate Basic (Health & Phys. Ed) OR Health & Phys. Ed (I/S), Part 1.

Session Dates
Start Date: Aug 02, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2022
Online: August 2, 2022 – August 31, 2022. Mandatory synchronous sessions: August 2, 2022 – August 12, 2022 (Monday to Friday). Be available between 8:30am - 4:30 pm. Meeting times and duration of the sessions are set by the instructor. All coursework must be completed by August 31, 2022.

This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. In addition to the synchronous sessions, expect to be online at least every second day for Fall, Winter and Spring courses; and every weekday during a Summer course to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
