Senior Basic (History)

Course Code: YU20SBH1

This course is designed to “extend skills and knowledge of teachers in the design, delivery and assessment of a subject-specific senior division program.” Teaching Senior History is a complex activity, and involves more than a sound knowledge of Ontario Ministry of Education course expectations. This course is designed to introduce teachers to most of the unique features of teaching students at this level. Some topics introduced in the course include critical historical thinking, inquiry based learning, informed practice, holistic education, assessment and evaluation, Professional Learning Communities, literacy and post-secondary destinations. Using up-to-date on-line resources, and realistic, reflective activities, this course will provide students with the opportunity to explore, share and incorporate theoretical approaches and teaching strategies appropriate to the Senior History classroom.
