This facilitated online course includes some mandatory synchronous sessions with real-time group interaction set by the Instructor. Audio and video recordings may be a required element of the learning.

The Additional Qualification Course: French as a Second Language Specialist explores the theoretical foundations, the development of learners, program planning and implementation, assessment, the learning environment and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning across the divisions. The course is specifically designed to support French speaking teachers in enhancing their pedagogical and programming practices as they relate to the delivery of French as a Second Language curriculum. Candidates come to the Additional Qualification course: French as a Second Language, Specialist with French language skills and related knowledge and experiences. Critical to the implementation of this course is the modeling of a positive learning environment that reflects care, professional knowledge, ethical practice, leadership and ongoing learning.

Prerequisites

  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT
  • Part 2 completed
  • Minimum TWO years certified teaching experience by the first day of the course, subsequent to certification including ONE year in French as a Second Language

Session Dates
Start Date: Jan 19, 2021
End Date: Apr 01, 2021
Mandatory synchronous sessions: January 19, 2021 - April 1, 2021. Every Tuesday. Be available between 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm (excluding March break). Meeting times and duration of the sessions are set by the instructor. This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. In addition to the synchronous sessions, expect to be online at least every second day for Fall, Winter and Spring courses; and every weekday during a Summer course to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
