The purpose of the Health and Physical Education(H&PE) Intermediate/Senior Part I Additional Qualification (AQ) Course is to develop candidates’ skills and knowledge for the design, delivery, and assessment of H&PE programs. As an introductory course, Part 1 focuses on the theory and practice underpinning H&PE through exploration of the philosophy and its application for ensuring a healthy, active living education. Critical to the delivery of H&PE is the ability of teachers to ensure positive learning experiences for all students. Candidates learn to combine their knowledge of physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development and learning with understanding of students’ needs in order to facilitate active student engagement.

Prerequisites

  • A Certificate of Qualification and Registration with the OCT
  • Qualifications in at least one of the following:
    • intermediate division
    • senior division.

    Start Date: Jan 14, 2025
    End Date: Mar 28, 2025
    Mandatory synchronous sessions: January 14, 2025 - March 28, 2025. Every Tuesday. Be available between 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm. (excluding March break). Meeting times and duration of the sessions are set by the instructor. This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. In addition to the synchronous sessions, expect to be online at least every second day to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
