This facilitated online course includes some mandatory synchronous sessions with real-time group interaction set by the Instructor. Audio and video recordings may be a required element of the learning.

The purpose of the Honour Specialist (Health and Physical Education) Additional Qualification (AQ) Course is to extend candidates’ skills and knowledge for design, delivery, and assessment of H&PE programs. This course focuses on the theory and practice underpinning H&PE through exploration of the underlying philosophy and its application for ensuring a healthy, active living education. As an Honour Specialist course, it also emphasizes the importance of authoritative leadership for supporting and sustaining strong teaching and learning through sound, innovative programming. Theory and discussion of important issues culminate in a practical leadership project to demonstrate the candidate’s foundational learning and understanding of H&PE.

Prerequisites

  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT
  • FOUR-year academic undergraduate degree (20 full courses excluding education courses)
  • NINE full courses in the subject of Health & Physical Education with a minimum B average (excluding education courses)
  • Minimum TWO years certified teaching experience by the first day of the course, subsequent to certification including at least ONE year in Health and Physical Education

Documents Required

  • Signed Supervisory Officer's Form by course end date confirming teaching experience
  • Official transcript(s) sent directly to the Professional Learning Office from the granting institution before course start date

Online: July 5 – 30, 2021.

Mandatory synchronous sessions: July 5 – July 16 2021 (Monday to Friday). Be available between 8:30am - 4:30 pm. Meeting times and duration of the sessions are set by the instructor. All coursework must be completed by July 30, 2021

This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. In addition to the synchronous sessions, expect to be online at least every second day for Fall, Winter and Spring courses; and every weekday during a Summer course to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
