The Primary/Junior Mathematics Part 1 Additional Qualification course will engage you in a process of inquiry to explore and develop a life-long-learner mindset for teaching and learning mathematics. Through exploration and hands on learning, you will examine and develop the pedagogical content knowledge of Number Sense and Numeration. You will be introduced to different strategies such as number talks, strings, and math talk to develop your student’s ability to think flexibly, accurately, and efficiently when working with numbers.

The summative task for this course is the creation of a mini-unit focused on using the three-part lesson format incorporating the mathematical processes and assessment for learning.

Course participants will have the opportunity to apply their learning during the face to face sessions with students in the summer school program on site.

Prerequisites

  • An undergraduate degree acceptable to the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT

Monday – Friday (8:30am – 12:00pm) JULY 3 – 26, 2019 This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular attendance and active participation is a requirement. Expect to be online regularly to complete online assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
