The Primary/Junior Mathematics Part 2 Additional Qualification course will continue to develop your pedagogical content knowledge of the Number Sense and Numeration strand (proportional reasoning) as well as the Geometry and Measurement strands. The course embeds proportional/ relative thinking and spatial reasoning in all strands. Further, you will dig deeper into the three part lesson format by focusing on the most challenging part of mathematics instruction: the debrief. You will also continue to extend your knowledge of assessment and evaluation.

The summative activity for the course is to develop a unit of study that incorporates best practices in mathematics instruction and assessment.

Course participants will have the opportunity to apply their learning during the face to face sessions with students in the summer school program on site.

Prerequisites

  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT
  • Part 1 completed
  • Minimum ONE year of certified teaching experience by the first day of the course, subsequent to certification

Monday – Friday (8:30am – 12:00pm) JULY 3 – 26, 2019 This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular attendance and active participation is a requirement. Expect to be online regularly to complete online assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
