Teaching Students with Intellectual Needs (Developmental Disabilities)

This course is designed to enable teachers and educational staff to plan programs for students with Intellectual Disabilities. Participants will understand various types of Intellectual Disabilities of students that may enter their classroom and each child's unique potential. This course focuses on inclusivity by promoting a classroom environment that is safe, nurturing and open to the developmental differences and needs of students with Intellectual Differences.

NOTE: A subsidy is available to any TDSB permanent teacher in Learning Centre 3. $200 will be reimbursed by TDSB upon proof of successful completion of the course.

Prerequisites

  • An undergraduate degree acceptable to the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT

In class: July 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18 (8:30 am - 4:00 pm) (no Fridays or weekends)

This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular attendance and active participation is a requirement. Expect to be online regularly to complete online assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor. (All assignments to be completed no later than July 31, 2019)
