This facilitated online course includes some mandatory synchronous sessions with real-time group interaction set by the Instructor. Audio and video recordings may be a required element of the learning.

This course is designed to enable teachers and educational staff to plan programs for students with Intellectual Disabilities. Participants will understand various types of Intellectual Disabilities of students that may enter their classroom and each child's unique potential. This course focuses on inclusivity by promoting a classroom environment that is safe, nurturing and open to the developmental differences and needs of students with Intellectual Differences.

Prerequisites

  • An undergraduate degree acceptable to the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT

Start Date: Jan 19, 2021
End Date: Apr 01, 2021
Mandatory synchronous sessions: January 19, 2021 - April 1, 2021. Every Tuesday. Be available between 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm (excluding March break). Meeting times and duration of the sessions are set by the instructor. This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. In addition to the synchronous sessions, expect to be online at least every second day for Fall, Winter and Spring courses; and every weekday during a Summer course to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
