Joanne Marie Babalis has been a Kindergarten teacher for most of her 14 year career with the public school board. It all began in August 2016, when I was thinking about which AQ course to take. I have been following Joanne Babalis’ blog for a few years now and was always inspired by her teaching style, inquires and documentation. I was aware that Joanne taught the Kindergarten AQ and began to search if she was teaching in the 2016/17 year. Well to my advantage she was! So I decided to take her course. She taught a course that was hands-on and practical. The format of the course allowed you to really be a part of the learning and direct the learning towards your interests and wants (for example, as a PLC group you were given a choice to do a book study or plan various readings per week), just like you would do with your own students. The blended course was great because you were able to network with teachers from across Ontario in person and through social media (Twitter). It gives you an opportunity to connect with other teachers and share your thoughts, ideas and take them back to your own classroom. Joanne inspired me to grow in my journey and move away from the old and jump right into the new ways of delivering the FDK program. I have become more knowledgeable and confident to deliver a program that reflects the new Kindergarten document (4 frames, play based learning). Joanne really allowed us to think outside the box. She gave us many opportunities to share provocations, visit other classrooms and listen to many guest speakers. She really made sure that we were given a variety and always kept us thinking and wondering. After taking Kindergarten part 1, I made a decision to take part 2 and the specialist. I can now say that I have transformed my teaching style and incorporated many new philosophies into my classroom. I am more confident in delivering the Kindergarten program. Joanne has inspired me to be the teacher I am today. I am able to take risks and try new things in the classroom and not feel like it's not the right thing to do! Welcome everyone to my profile. I have been an educator with the Durham District School Board for 32 years. I began my elementary teaching career teaching in Oshawa and taught across all divisions for 18 years before moving into the role of an administrator. This past year, I took two online courses at York relating to English Language Learners. The coursework was interesting, challenging and rewarding. Hello - my name is Daniel Williams and I have been teaching/counselling for thirty-seven years, twenty-one years in Guidance - the last fifteen years as the Chair of Guidance. I have had a long connection with professional development, teaching Guidance, Intermediate Social Sciences and English. I have been the Instructor for Guidance Part I, II and Specialist as on-site courses, as well as on-line for York over the last twenty-four years. I am a father of four, and the grandfather of six.

Hello there! My name is Marcell Wolf and I am currently working as a system administrator with the Simcoe County District School Board in the secondary panel. As a High School Vice-Principal, I am responsible for Student Success and I work very closely with the Guidance and Special Education Teams. I have been working in the public system for 20 years. I spent my first five years in the elementary panel as a Core Grade 8 Home Room Teacher and a SERT attached to students IPRC identified with multiple and behavioural exceptionalities. I love working with education workers that support at-risk students with learning barriers. When I worked as a classroom teacher, I looked for opportunities to engage students in differentiated, project based and hands on learning opportunities. I am a relational administrator and educator and whenever possible enjoy infusing humor and building positive influential relationships with students, parents and colleagues. I have worked at Central North Correctional Centre teaching creative writing and publishing poetry and prose. In addition to this, I have worked for the Toronto District School Board, York Region District School Board and now Simcoe County District School Board. I look forward to working with you and I particularly enjoy working with teachers interested in Student Services. I am a York University Graduate and have volunteered in the Pre-Service Education Program and hosted several teacher candidates in Concurrent and Consecutive Education Program at York University and Nipissing University. It was extremely useful to have Instructors who currently practice and have a range of experience. The shared approach of Principal and Employee Services Senior role (with the experience of Principal) was excellent and gave us the opportunity to consider actual practice. Kelly Wright is currently a K-12 Instructional Coach with Peel District School Board Curriculum and Instruction Support Services. She has 22 years of teaching experience. She has taught all grades from Kindergarten to Grade 8, both as a classroom teacher and in supporting roles such as ESL, Music, Literacy Coach and Early Literacy Teacher. Kelly has a passion for teaching and learning in the Primary grades and actively takes part in Early Years professional learning sessions as co-learner and facilitator in the study of learning. As educators, it is our responsibility to believe in the abilities of our youngest learners. We must recognize that children are capable, confident learners. They are naturally curious and actively investigate the world around them. They are able to effectively communicate and take an active role in their learning. When educators share these beliefs about young children, they use their observations and understanding of child development and program/curriculum expectations to respond, extend and challenge each learner through play and inquiry.

I have diverse educational qualifications, experience as a teacher of elementary aged students, and demonstrated leadership in both public and independent schools. I strongly believe in shared leadership, and succession planning. I have a breadth of leadership experiences; expertise in curriculum development and mapping; and an understanding of child development specific to the elementary level. Formally holding the posts of Education Officer for the province’s Education Quality & Accountability Office (EQAO), Director of Curriculum, Vice Principal, Junior School Principal at The York School, and currently Head of Junior School Trinity College School, I have also served as junior level math trainer for the TDSB and an independent consultant for various organizations including EQAO, the University of Toronto and York University.
