The Special Education, Specialist Additional Qualification Course extends and reinforces the knowledge and skills from Part I and Part 2 with a specific focus on the development of leadership skills. It employs a critical, pedagogical lens to explore in a holistic and integrated manner theoretical foundations, development of learners, program planning and implementation, instructional practices, assessment and evaluation, the learning environment and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning across the divisions. This course supports the enhancement of professional knowledge, ethical practice, leadership and ongoing learning.

Prerequisites

  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT
  • Part 2 completed
  • Minimum TWO years certified teaching experience by the first day of the course, subsequent to certification including ONE year in Special Education

Session Dates
Start Date: Oct 04, 2022
End Date: Dec 09, 2022
Mandatory synchronous sessions: October 4, 2022 - December 9, 2022. Every Wednesday. Be available between 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm. Meeting times and duration of the sessions are set by the instructor. This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. In addition to the synchronous sessions, expect to be online at least every second day for Fall, Winter and Spring courses; and every weekday during a Summer course to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
