The Special Education, Specialist Additional Qualification Course extends and reinforces the knowledge and skills from Part I and Part 2 with a specific focus on the development of leadership skills. It employs a critical, pedagogical lens to explore in a holistic and integrated manner theoretical foundations, development of learners, program planning and implementation, instructional practices, assessment and evaluation, the learning environment and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning across the divisions. This course supports the enhancement of professional knowledge, ethical practice, leadership and ongoing learning.

Prerequisites

  • A Certificate of Qualification and Registration with the OCT
  • Part 2 completed
  • Minimum TWO years certified teaching experience by the first day of the course, subsequent to certification including ONE year in Special Education

Session Dates
Start Date: Jan 14, 2025
End Date: Mar 28, 2025
Mandatory synchronous sessions: January 14, 2025 - March 28, 2025. Every Wednesday. Be available between 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm (excluding March break). Meeting times and duration of the sessions are set by the instructor. This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. In addition to the synchronous sessions, expect to be online at least every second day to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
