Get ready to get dirty! Get ready to sow and grow! Get ready to explore the biology, the chemistry, the artistry, the culinary, the cultural and the economic areas of Green Industries!
This Green Industries, Grades 9 and 10 ABQ course will offer the participant a true hands-on learning experience to help to inspire new practices in your own classrooms. Professional practice, curriculum planning, lesson plans covering all 5 sectors of the Green Industries umbrella: Landscaping, Horticulture, Agriculture, Forestry and Floristry. The complexity and diversity of this subject area requires proficiency in a wide variety of skills ranging from calculating slope to creating floral displays!
Feedback of various performance based activities will provide the focus for the development of learning modules and instructional materials to be used in your classrooms.

Prerequisites
Applicants to this ABQ course must be OCT certified teachers in good standing with formal technical education or proof of competence and skilled wage-earning experience in the area of study. All inquiries about experience in a specific field are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

- One Technological area listed on your OCT Certificate
If you do not have Technological Education on your OCT certificate, you must hold an Intermediate Division qualification* and submit work experience letters which meet one of the following options:
- 5 years of full-time related wage-earning experience OR
- 3 years of full-time related wage-earning experience after successful completion of a related 2 year diploma program OR
- 2 years of full-time related wage-earning experience after successful completion of related 3 or 4 year degree program

- 35 hours of interactive coursework including synchronous and asynchronous online learning where regular participation is a requirement
- 65 hours of sector experience outside of school hours in a placement(s) within the BBT related to this course. Instructors will help facilitate appropriate placements
- 25-hour Independent Learning Project All timelines and deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor. This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. Expect to be online at least every second day to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
Note: Related work experience must be proof of use of skills and knowledge related to the technological education subject for entry and may include business or industrial experience. One year of full-time work experience can be interpreted as 1,700 hours of work experience. If you are self-employed you must submit a sworn affidavit, a business license and proof of income. Joanne Marie Babalis has been a Kindergarten teacher for most of her 14 year career with the public school board.
After Teacher’s College, she took over 15 additional qualification courses and specialized in areas such as Special Education and Literacy (Reading, Writing, Oral Communication, etc.). It all began in August 2016, when I was thinking about which AQ course to take. I have been following Joanne Babalis’ blog for a few years now and was always inspired by her teaching style, inquires and documentation. I was aware that Joanne taught the Kindergarten AQ and began to search if she was teaching in the 2016/17 year. Well to my advantage she was! So I decided to take her course. She taught a course that was hands-on and practical. The format of the course allowed you to really be a part of the learning and direct the learning towards your interests and wants (for example, as a PLC group you were given a choice to do a book study or plan various readings per week), just like you would do with your own students. The blended course was great because you were able to network with teachers from across Ontario in person and through social media (Twitter). It gives you an opportunity to connect with other teachers and share your thoughts, ideas and take them back to your own classroom. Joanne inspired me to grow in my journey and move away from the old and jump right into the new ways of delivering the FDK program. I have become more knowledgeable and confident to deliver a program that reflects the new Kindergarten document (4 frames, play based learning). Joanne really allowed us to think outside the box. She gave us many opportunities to share provocations, visit other classrooms and listen to many guest speakers. She really made sure that we were given a variety and always kept us thinking and wondering. After taking Kindergarten part 1, I made a decision to take part 2 and the specialist. I can now say that I have transformed my teaching style and incorporated many new philosophies into my classroom. I am more confident in delivering the Kindergarten program. Joanne has inspired me to be the teacher I am today. I am able to take risks and try new things in the classroom and not feel like it's not the right thing to do! In addition to serving as an ESL Curriculum Leader at a large Toronto high school and an associate teacher to almost 20 candidate teachers over my career, I hold a M.Ed. in Curriculum design from OISE and a B.Ed. in TESL from Concordia University. Over the years I have learned an appreciation and understanding of teaching methods rooted in research. I also appreciate the need to push through those feelings of being overwhelmed by all we think we don’t know to find those truths that work for us. This past year, I took two online courses at York relating to English Language Learners. The coursework was interesting, challenging and rewarding. I was exposed to and became more familiar with the various MOE documents as well as other fantastic resources to support ELLs in our classrooms and schools. My name is Maryteresa (Terie) Nocera and I have been an AQ Instructor for York University for about seven years. I began my teaching career as an Early Childhood Educator working with students with special needs in Montreal before moving back to Toronto. I have been with the TCDSB for over 23 years, teaching everything from French Immersion Kindergarten and French Core, grade 1-5 to special education.
I believe passionately in working collaboratively with educators, families, and the community to support all learners. I continue to advocate for students and families in my role as an Assessment and Programming teacher and as a member of the Early Years Interdisciplinary team with Special Services at TCDSB. I have the opportunity to meet our youngest learners as they begin their educational career and to support programming/strategies as they transition through grades 1 to 8. In this role, I support the transition to school, programming for students with learning needs, enrichment, creating inclusive and engaging learning spaces, planning with an inquiry stance, developing and implementing professional learning for Kindergarten teams, and supporting the transition to high school.
Most recently, I was the Early Years Lead Resource Teacher. I supported the implementation of Full-Day Kindergarten and was responsible for all professional development across the board. I received the Frances Pleschuk Award (2017) from the Council of Associated Primary Educators in recognition for my work in Early Years. I believe that we are always learning and most recently went back to school and completed my Master of Education.

Math has always been one of my favourite subjects areas to explore with students - but this love started long before my teaching career. Prior to teaching I worked for a number of architecture firms in Canada and the US... now there's a job with some applied mathematics!

Hello - my name is Daniel Williams and I have been teaching/counselling for thirty-seven years, twenty-one years in Guidance - the last fifteen years as the Chair of Guidance. Hello there! My name is Marcell Wolf and I am currently working as a system administrator with the Simcoe County District School Board in the secondary panel. As a High School Vice-Principal, I am responsible for Student Success and I work very closely with the Guidance and Special Education Teams. I have been working in the public system for 20 years. I spent my first five years in the elementary panel as a Core Grade 8 Home Room Teacher and a SERT attached to students IPRC identified with multiple and behavioural exceptionalities. I love working with education workers that support at-risk students with learning barriers. When I worked as a classroom teacher, I looked for opportunities to engage students in differentiated, project based and hands on learning opportunities. I am a relational administrator and educator and whenever possible enjoy infusing humor and building positive influential relationships with students, parents and colleagues. I have worked at Central North Correctional Centre teaching creative writing and publishing poetry and prose. In addition to this, I have worked for the Toronto District School Board, York Region District School Board and now Simcoe County District School Board. It was extremely useful to have Instructors who currently practice and have a range of experience. The shared approach of Principal and Employee Services Senior role (with the experience of Principal) was excellent and gave us the opportunity to consider actual practice. Kelly Wright is currently a K-12 Instructional Coach with Peel District School Board Curriculum and Instruction Support Services. She has 22 years of teaching experience. She has taught all grades from Kindergarten to Grade 8, both as a classroom teacher and in supporting roles such as ESL, Music, Literacy Coach and Early Literacy Teacher. Kelly has a passion for teaching and learning in the Primary grades and actively takes part in Early Years professional learning sessions as co-learner and facilitator in the study of learning.
As educators, it is our responsibility to believe in the abilities of our youngest learners. We must recognize that children are capable, confident learners. They are naturally curious and actively investigate the world around them. They are able to effectively communicate and take an active role in their learning. When educators share these beliefs about young children, they use their observations and understanding of child development and program/curriculum expectations to respond, extend and challenge each learner through play and inquiry.

I have diverse educational qualifications, experience as a teacher of elementary aged students, and demonstrated leadership in both public and independent schools. I strongly believe in shared leadership, and succession planning. I have a breadth of leadership experiences; expertise in curriculum development and mapping; and an understanding of child development specific to the elementary level. Formally holding the posts of Education Officer for the province’s Education Quality & Accountability Office (EQAO), Director of Curriculum, Vice Principal, Junior School Principal at The York School, and currently Head of Junior School Trinity College School, I have also served as junior level math trainer for the TDSB and an independent consultant for various organizations including EQAO, the University of Toronto and York University.
