Intermediate Basic (Science - General)

Intermediate Basic (Science - General) explores science teaching and learning in the intermediate school level. It examines our values, perceptions and knowledge related to Science and Technology in Grades 7 and 8, as well as Science in Grades 9 and 10. In this course, we will understand the needs of the adolescent learner and explore program planning and delivery, based on equity and inclusion. We will learn how to broaden the scope and extent of expectations in intermediate classes and prepare students to understand, adapt, and contribute to a rapidly changing world as well as participate in a global community. We will enhance learning through professional readings, hands-on investigations, ongoing analysis, reflection and finally an independent learning project. The course offers the candidates the opportunity to engage in collaborative learning, relating theory to practice and reflective practice. These learning experiences will provide the basis for your understanding of current Intermediate Science teaching and learning and Ministry policy, as well as enable you to prepare, implement and access curriculum for intermediate students. This course supports the following OCT Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession: Commitment to Students and Student Learning, Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice, Leadership in Learning Communities, and Ongoing Professional learning.
