This facilitated online course includes some mandatory synchronous sessions with real-time group interaction set by the Instructor. Audio and video recordings may be a required element of the learning.

The Dramatic Arts, Part 1 Additional Qualification Course develops candidates’ theoretical and practical knowledge and skills for classroom use through an introduction to the multiple perspectives of key drama theorists and scholars embedding in practical course components. Through experiential learning focused on a range of instructional design and assessment practices, candidates develop their professional practice as they explore their individual understanding of drama education as both a discrete arts discipline and an integrative methodology.

All learning is situated within a context of social justice, inclusion, and culturally relevant pedagogy. Focused practice in lesson planning, design, and implementation engages candidates as both learners and teachers in recurrent cycles of inquiry, action, and reflection. Through such processes, candidates gain deepen knowledge of the Dramatic Arts subject area, develop professional judgment, and generate new knowledge for practice.

Prerequisites

  • An undergraduate degree acceptable to the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT

Online: July 5 – 30, 2021.

Mandatory synchronous sessions: July 5 – July 16 2021 (Monday to Friday). Be available between 8:30am - 4:30 pm. Meeting times and duration of the sessions are set by the instructor. All coursework must be completed by July 30, 2021

This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. In addition to the synchronous sessions, expect to be online at least every second day for Fall, Winter and Spring courses; and every weekday during a Summer course to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
