Guidance and Career Education in Catholic Schools, Part 2 is an Additional Qualification course designed to further deepen your understanding of the crucial role of guidance and counselling within the Catholic school community. This course builds upon the foundational principles established in Part 1, with a focus on advancing the professional practice of guidance counsellors and educators, while integrating Catholic values, teachings, and ethical considerations.

You will explore how the guidance and counselling process can support students in their academic, personal, and spiritual growth, with a particular emphasis on nurturing their vocational discernment in alignment with Gospel values and the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations. As you examine the contributions of school-community stakeholders, you will also consider how collaboration with parents, pastors, faith leaders, and community members can enhance your ability to offer holistic guidance that nurtures the whole student.

Throughout this course, you will have opportunities to refine your professional practice by deepening your understanding of career awareness, educational planning, and student well-being. You will further develop your skills in using assessment tools and community resources in ways that reflect Catholic social teachings and the dignity of each student. Additionally, you will engage with legal and ethical issues from a Catholic perspective, enhancing your ability to navigate the complexities of guidance counselling in a faith-based environment.

Finally, with the support of your Instructional Leader (IL) and colleagues, you will engage in collaborative reflection and professional development. This course invites you to explore both personal and shared resources, allowing you to refine your counselling approach and continue to develop as a skilled and compassionate Catholic educator.
