Are you fascinated by mathematical relationships and/or reluctant to identify yourself a "math person"? Well, look no further! In this interactive AQ course we will build on our understanding through professional readings, doing mathematics together, small and whole group discussions, ongoing analysis, reflection and self-directed study. During this two week course participants will engage in a cycle of research informing practice and practice informing research through co-teaching, analyzing student samples and reflecting on how to promote the growth of students' mathematical understanding. These learning experiences will provide the basis for your understanding of current mathematical pedagogy and Ministry policy, as well as enable you to prepare, implement and access curriculum for primary and junior students.

This course is recommended for people who are already certified in the Primary or Junior division. It will not grant you either the Primary or Junior division.

The purpose of the Mathematics, Grades 7 & 8 course is to learn about specific issues and topic areas that are important in teaching mathematics to intermediate students. One overarching goal for the course comes from the Ontario College of Teachers guidelines for Mathematics, Grades 7 and 8 Additional Qualification courses: critically exploring and reflecting on past, current and evolving practices in Mathematics, Grades 7 and 8. This course employs a critical, pedagogical lens to explore in a holistic and integrated manner theoretical foundations, learning theory, program planning, development and implementation, instructional design and practices, assessment and evaluation, the learning environment, research and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning across the divisions.
