This is a facilitated online course that includes some mandatory synchronous sessions with real-time group interaction set by the Instructor. Audio and video recordings will be a required element of the learning.

The Additional Qualification Course: Special Education Part I employs a critical, pedagogical lens to explore in a holistic and integrated manner theoretical foundations, development of learners, program planning and implementation, instructional practices, assessment and evaluation, the learning environment and ethical considerations related to teaching and learning across the divisions. Critical to the implementation of this course is the modeling of a positive learning environment that reflects care, diversity and equity. This course supports the enhancement of professional knowledge, ethical practice, leadership and ongoing learning.

Prerequisites

  • An undergraduate degree acceptable to the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT

Please note this course includes mandatory synchronous sessions with real-time group interaction set by the Instructor between August 4 - August 17(Monday to Friday). Be available from 8:30am to 4:30pm. All coursework must be completed by August 31, 2020.

This 125 hour course consists of 100 hours of interactive coursework and 25 hours of independent learning. Regular and relevant candidate participation is a requirement. Expect to be online at least every second day for Fall, Winter and Spring courses; and every weekday during a Summer course to complete assignments and collaborate in discussion forums. All deadlines will be communicated by the Instructor.
