  Participate in live Zoom sessions every Wednesday - May 6, 2026 - June 10, 2026 beginning at 6:00 pm. Note: Live Zoom sessions will take place between 6pm and 9:30pm. The Instructor will confirm times. This dynamic course includes interactive, instructor-led sessions and online learning designed for immediate classroom application. You’ll actively participate in discussions and activities that make learning interactive and relevant. In addition to our live sessions, plan to check in online every couple of days to complete assignments and connect with your peers in vibrant discussion forums.   Joanne Marie Babalis has been a Kindergarten teacher for most of her 14 year career with the public school board. After Teacher’s College, she took over 15 additional qualification courses and specialized in areas such as Special Education and Literacy (Reading, Writing, Oral Communication, etc.).   It all began in August 2016, when I was thinking about which AQ course to take. I have been following Joanne Babalis’ blog for a few years now and was always inspired by her teaching style, inquires and documentation. I was aware that Joanne taught the Kindergarten AQ and began to search if she was teaching in the 2016/17 year. Well to my advantage she was! So I decided to take her course. She taught a course that was hands-on and practical. The format of the course allowed you to really be a part of the learning and direct the learning towards your interests and wants (for example, as a PLC group you were given a choice to do a book study or plan various readings per week), just like you would do with your own students. The blended course was great because you were able to network with teachers from across Ontario in person and through social media (Twitter). It gives you an opportunity to connect with other teachers and share your thoughts, ideas and take them back to your own classroom. Joanne inspired me to grow in my journey and move away from the old and jump right into the new ways of delivering the FDK program. I have become more knowledgeable and confident to deliver a program that reflects the new Kindergarten document (4 frames, play based learning). Joanne really allowed us to think outside the box. She gave us many opportunities to share provocations, visit other classrooms and listen to many guest speakers. She really made sure that we were given a variety and always kept us thinking and wondering. After taking Kindergarten part 1, I made a decision to take part 2 and the specialist. I can now say that I have transformed my teaching style and incorporated many new philosophies into my classroom. I am more confident in delivering the Kindergarten program. Joanne has inspired me to be the teacher I am today. I am able to take risks and try new things in the classroom and not feel like it's not the right thing to do!   My name is Gail Bedeau. Currently I am in the role of K-12 Learning Coach within the Toronto District School Board(TDSB).   Hello, My name is Ian Brandon and I'm currently in the role as an Instructional Profile Leader in the area of Special Education. I have taught in all elementary divisions which include Primary, Junior and Intermediate grades.   My interest has always been in teaching ESL and literacy, to students that have newly arrived from another country. These students have always impressed me and I have learned a great deal from them.   I have held various roles in the 15 years I have worked for the York Region District School Board.
